The 4-seater ActiveE coupe is BMW's first vehicle in their EfficientDynamics lineup. It is an all electric BMW 1-series coupe powered by a 125kW electric motor (170hp) with 250Nm of torque. The ActiveE will go 0-60 in approximately 8.5 seconds and has a 100mi range with liquid-cooled LiIon battery pack by BMW and LiMotive. The batteries can be via a J1772 connector at up to 32A, 240V (6.6kW). Like the BMW MINI E, the ActiveE will have regen braking in accelerator pedal. BMW has announced this will be a limited field trial vehicle, for lease in select areas only, beginning in Fall 2011. BMW will lease 700 ActiveEs for 2 years at $499 per month with a $2,250 down payment.

BMW is no longer accepting applications for the BMW ActiveE field trial. BMW has not announced plans to bring the ActiveE to full scale production.

ActiveE plug/connector

The ActiveE will use the J1772 connector. The prototype they made used the ODU connector used by the MINI-E because when they made it there were no J1772 plugs available. The production vehicles will all use the J1772, I have confirmed it with BMW.
