Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11), a leading clean energy advocate, will speak about the future of clean technology and electric vehicles at Plug In America’s second annual benefit, Plug-Ins, Pinots and Progress, which will bring some of the latest all-electric vehicles to the Thomas Fogarty Winery in Woodside, CA on Sunday, Aug. 9.
McNerney, a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, is the author of H.R. 1730, the Vehicles for the Future Act, which lays the groundwork for more widespread use of plug-in EVs and plug-in hybrid EVs through infrastructure planning. His remarks will highlight the event, where ticketed guests will be invited to view such new, zero-emission EVs as the Aptera, rarely seen outside of its San Diego home, a Tesla Roadster sports car, a BMW Mini E and a Tango by Commuter Cars.
“Plug In America is honored to have Congressman McNerney attend our event, which brings together clean energy leaders and some of the vehicles that are driving a sustainable, economically sound future for us all,” says Plug In America President Daniel Davids.
Plug In America, the nation’s leading plug-in EV advocacy organization, invites the public to attend its 4-8 p.m. event. Rachelle Chong, a California Public Utilities Commissioner, will be among other notable guests. Other vehicles to be displayed include an A123 Hymotion Prius conversion and electric motorcycles from Mission Motors and Zero Motorcycles. Proceeds from a live auction to help the nonprofit organizaton continue to educate consumers and advocate for the rapid commercialization of plug-in EVs.
In January, Plug In America staged history’s greenest parade of some 80 highway-capable plug-in vehicles to urge President Obama to call for one million plug-ins on the road by 2012. Prior to this, through nationwide grassroots outreach and legislative advocacy, the organization helped to shape the federal stimulus bill that contained more than $14 billion for plug-in vehicles and infrastructure.
“Our work will put vastly more numbers and kinds of plug-in electric vehicles on the road,” says Plug In America legislative director Jay Friedland of Santa Cruz. “It will help create jobs and spur spending by incentivizing consumers to purchase the cleanest-running vehicles made today and those just around the corner.”
Tickets to the Aug. 9 event are available at www.pluginamerica.org. Information: (415) 323-3329. Thomas Fogarty Winery is located outside of Palo Alto at 19501 Skyline Blvd., Woodside 94062.
