Our Leadership
These are the people, often behind the scenes and at the front lines, leading our organization and supporting our mission.
President
Dan David's career spans oceanography, aviation, and software design. He is an active environmentalist promoting electric vehicles, solar power, sustainable building, and animal rights. He devotes much of his time to philanthropic and educational work in support of these causes.
Vice President
Paul Scott is a founding member of Plug In America and a long-time EV driver and advocate for renewable energy. Paul has worked in the film business for most of his career while keeping involved as a population activist and environmental activist. Paul currently works for SolarCity, California's largest residential solar installer. Paul also is the president of the Electric Vehicle Association of Southern California.
Secretary
Richard Kelly is a programmer/analyst at the Irvine Ranch Water District where, in addition to his regular duties, he speaks about solar power and energy efficiency. He has driven electric vehicles exclusively for five years. With his background in computer science, he serves as webmaster and assists with IT services for Plug In America in addition to serving as secretary of the board.
Treasurer
Mike Kane spent over 20 years as a marketing and business development professional in the high-tech industry, including stints at Emulex, the semiconductor division of Rockwell International and Motorola. Since leaving the industry in 2004 to pursue personal interests including environmental and alternative fuels advocacy, he has been involved with several non-profit organizations and campaigns in these areas. Mike is one of the founders of Plug In America, a non-profit advocacy group that promotes the use of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
Ron Freund has been the chairman of the national Electric Auto Association for over seven years and he has driven plug-in vehicles for more than a decade. His expertise is hardware engineering and training, and he's been a working engineer for his entire career. He served on two previous boards of directors in the field of education.
Legislative Director
Jay Friedland is managing partner of Cinemagic Partners Ltd, a consulting firm developing high technology ventures. A self-described serial entrepreneur, he has built successful companies as well as developing key industry alliances between companies both large and small. Jay is currently working with the new electric motorcycle startup, Zero Motorcycles. His environmental activism began in the 1970s and he is also president of the Central Coast Electric Auto Association.
Sherry Boschert is a journalist and author of the book Plug-in Hybrids: The Cars That Will Recharge America (New Society Publishers). She co-founded Plug In America and the San Francisco Electric Vehicle Association, and is a member of Sierra Club California's Climate and Energy Committee. Boschert is a frequent speaker on the topics of plug-in vehicles and renewable energy. See a longer bio and CV here. Marc Geller is an advocate and writer in the area of public and corporate policy related to electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and related source energy. He is on the board of directors of the Electric Auto Association and co-founded the association's San Francisco chapter, the San Francisco Electric Vehicle Association, as well as DontCrush.com and Plug In America.He blogs at plugsandcars.blogspot.com. He is the San Francisco Bay Area sales representative of Energy Efficiency Solar, an installer of solar photovoltaic systems for residences and businesses.
Jennifer Krill has been directing campaigns at Rainforest Action Network since 2002 fighting for Old Growth Forest protection, more fuel-efficient cars by Ford Motor Company and pressuring banks to halt financing climate change-causing industries. Jennifer leads RAN's negotiations with corporations, acts as primary spokesperson to the media, and manages a talented team of organizers who mobilize thousands of activists. Before joining RAN in 1999, Jennifer worked for two years as Outreach Director for Earth Island Institute's Sea Turtle Restoration Project, and for two years as a canvass manager for Greenpeace. Jennifer received bachelor's degrees in Landscape Architecture and in History from Ball State University in 1995.
Linda Nicholes worked for 28 years as a Superior Court Reporter in Orange County. She is a self-described environmental activist and past president of Plug In America. Linda works to educate youth about the importance of electric transportation and transitioning to renewable energy sources. She has conducted frequent workshops for high school-aged youth and given presentations to high school classes and environmental organizations.
Communications Director
Zan Dubin Scott is president of ZDS Communications, a public relations and marketing agency specializing in environmental issues and enterprises. She founded the company after a decade as a staff writer with The Los Angeles Times, for which she continues to write. She is on the board of Green Depot, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising public awareness and use of renewable energy sources including biodiesel, solar and wind power.
Managing Director
Jeanne Trombly has over 12 years experience working in the nonprofit sector in a variety of positions. She served as Regional Fundraising Director for American Farmland Trust; acting Interim Director for Investors' Circle and she launched her own organization Fiber Futures where she helped catalyze consumer demand for "tree-free" papers and advised the paper industry. She serves on the board of the Solar Living Institute and is a former board member for Urban Ecology and Amazon Watch.
Ted Flittner is a self-employed engineering & business consultant based in Southern California. Ted supports his clients with training, business coaching, process improvement, marketing and web development. Previously he worked in a host of roles at Western Digital Corp. He is a co-founder of Plug In America and has supported web and IT needs since the group was founded. Ted is a creative ceramic artist and avid traveler. Having explored more than 50 countries on 5 continents, he has experienced first-hand how the world is rapidly changing and straining natural resources.
Stefano Paris is the official documentarian of Plug In America with a passion for photovoltaic solar power and electric vehicles. He is an AeroMechanical Engineer and was a core design, test, and flight engineer throughout the world record setting programs of Centurion, Helios, and Pathfinder solar electric aircraft. He self installed a 4kW photovoltaic solar system on his Southern California home in preparation for the MINI E he will be driving this spring. [Stefano's Plug-In Electric Vehicles Page]
Colby Trudeau is an Engineering student at the University of San Diego. As Plug In America's IT volunteer, he develops web outreach communications, automobile company petitions, and monitors online coverage of battery electric vehicles and PHEVs developments. He also represents Plug In America at various events. Upon graduating, Colby wants to work on developing electric vehicles. Colby's other interests are computers, snowboarding, and everything eco-friendly.
